Les Greens d'Eugénie: the well-kept secret of the Landes

21st July 2025 10096

3 minutes from Eugénie-les-Bains, nestled in the heart of a generous and peaceful nature, the Greens d'Eugénie are one of those places that we often discover by chance but never forget after playing there.

Text Arnaud Blanc

9-hole course with powerful charm and unsuspected technicality, the golf course, located in the town of Bahus-Soubiran, called Les Greens d'Eugénie, is one of those unexpected addresses that stand out, not by their notoriety, but by the quality of their hospitality, the sincerity of their project and the authenticity of the experience. On the road between Mont-de-Marsan and the Basque Country, a stop is essential: itinerant golfers found here a rare and singular setting.

A story of family, passion and reconversion

When Patricia and Éric Lebigre took up golf in 2017, they probably did not yet imagine how much they were going to transform the place into a dream base. Former banker and former audiovisual professional, the couple leaves the Paris region to write a new page in Eugénie. "We wanted a different life, rooted in the Southwest. And above all, we were looking for a place for our son, Thibaut, passionate about golf since the age of 8, in situation of handicap, but with a thirst for life and to learn intact" confides Patricia.
The golf course, originally created in 1997 by a local farmer, is still very rustic. But with patience and determination, the couple transforms him: "We have resumed all the maintenance, redone the shavings, reworked the greens, moved some starts... she enumerates. Today, it’s a real golf course, and in the region, we are starting to talk about ourselves," she rejoices.
Éric, he, at the same time finds his very first job – gardener at the Fontainebleau golf course – but with tenfold passion and rigor: "I do 100 hours per week. My goal is for people who come to our place to leave from here saying 'Wow, it’s a garden this journey" he delivers.
And almost ten years after their first construction site, the goal is largely achieved.

A destination at the gates of a haven of peace

If golf attracts more and more curious people, it’s also thanks to its environment. Eugénie-les-Bains, famous for its Palace, its starred Restaurant Michel Guérard, is less than three kilometers from there. The very name of the golf course, Les Greens d'Eugénie, reflects this desire to echo the gentleness and refinement of this timeless village. "We want people to be able to do their spa treatment, relax, and complete their stay with a beautiful golfing experience," explains Patricia. The club is currently developing partnerships with nearby hotels to create tailor-made packages. "Many couples come: one plays golf while the other is in rehab when they are not doing both together. And often, they come back the following year" she smiles. Because here, everything breathes tranquility. The calm of the Landes, the clean air, the absence of urban tumult... it is the ideal getaway to reconnect, far from the big city centers.

A demanding, technical and attractive course

But don’t be fooled by its size: the Golf d'Eugénie has everything of a large. On its 9 holes homologated, the course extends over nearly 5,600 meters from the white starts. « There is certainly a stream, pretty trees and surrounding vineyards but the pars 4 and pars 5 are quite long and the terrain is hilly. It’s beautiful, but it’s sturdy," warns Éric. "The track, rightly known to be difficult to score, jealously preserves its record of two shots under par. "Even 'Scratch' players can’t tame it easily," he adds, almost amused. As for maintenance, the greens, of medium size, are meticulously maintained, sanded and worked all year round. “I want them to drive well, to be fair. We’re averaging 2.8 turns, and I can go up to 3.5... but then it gets too hard," he adds. And for those who want to progress, the club now has a room that can be privatized with Trackman, and a pro — Thomas Vayssieres— whose pedagogy attracts both beginners and experienced players.
Finally, to extend the experience, golfers can eat at the Table de Patricia, where a simple and effective menu highlights local and seasonal products, with homemade dishes and desserts.

In the end, Les Greens d'Eugénie embodies a rare idea of golf: that of a family place, humble and passionate, which bets on the quality of play, the human experience and the beauty of simple things. Here, we come to discover... and we come back because we got attached.
