26th February 2025 5210

Leaning against the Jura mountains, overlooking Lake Geneva, the Bonmont Golf & Country Club is a haven of peace that will appeal to tourists seeking a peaceful, refined and golfing stay. New partner of the Golfy Network, it offers an ideal opportunity to discover and appreciate its exceptional setting.

In Bonmont, the notion of welcome is a very long-standing tradition. The year 2023 indeed marked a double anniversary: the forty years of the golf, but also the nine hundred years of the estate, since the abbey that dominates the site was founded in 1123, a few years before being attached to the order of Cîteaux. If the church, jewels of Cistercian architecture restored during the 90s, has become a cultural and tourist place, the adjoining buildings are today dedicated to a completely different function. Bought in the late 70s by the Swiss entrepreneur Henri-Ferdinand Lavanchy, they constitute the heart of the domain of the Golf & Country Club of Bonmont, a haven of peace for pilgrims golfers in search of a privileged experience.

On the foundations of the former hospital of the abbey was erected the castle, an elegant building that serves as a club-house, restaurant and hotel. Outside, at the foot of the vast terrace offering a breathtaking view of Lake Geneva (in its almost totality, from the water jet of Geneva to the city of Montreux to the east!) and the Alps, with Mont Blanc as the highlight, extends an elegant 18-hole course.

Inaugurated in 1983, the layout created by the British architect Don Harradine is harmoniously modeled in the wooded landscape that slopes gently towards the shore, a few kilometers to the south.

"Even if it was renovated and slightly modified by his son, Peter, in 2002, it is not particularly difficult and pleases golfers of all levels it offers a permanent challenge for golfers of all levels – from beginner to seasoned professional," explains Laurent Bachelard, the director of the estate.

"The advantage we have is that the land on which it was built is very permeable, due to a rockslide from the Jura mountains that occurred in very ancient times. Water seeping very well into the soil, it is playable in any season." The nickname 'Brasse-Cailloux', used to designate the inhabitants of the neighboring village of Chéserex, echoes this immemorial avalanche! Following the death of the founder in 2012, his house located on the other side of the church compared to the castle was converted into a hotel, bringing to eighteen the number of rooms and making Bonmont a real small resort full of refinement. There is also an outdoor swimming pool, two tennis courts, a spa with steam room and sauna, four seminar rooms and an excellent restaurant. "It is a small haven of peace in a beautiful peaceful region," summarizes the director.

A region, on the border between Switzerland and France, which does not lack quality golf courses, but within which Bonmont is one of the few to offer accommodation of this level. Thanks to the proximity of Geneva and its international airport, all the reasons are good to experience the local tradition of hospitality yourself!
