Why play a 9-hole course? Florian Le Guen, director of the Golf de la Baie de Morlaix, tells us

1st March 2026 914

The Golf de la Baie de Morlaix enjoys an exceptional natural setting. But beyond the setting, it is a true philosophy of the game that is expressed there. We asked some questions to its director, Florian Le Guen, who explains why the 9-hole format deserves all the attention of golfers. Accessibility, technicality, gaming pleasure, strategy...

After an experience in the sale of sports equipment, then the creation of a golf training center in the Lyon region, Florian is back in Finistère for 2 years managing the Golf de la Baie de Morlaix.

- Why do you need to play on a 9-hole? What are the advantages?

The course offers beautiful views of the sea and Clouët beach, protected from the prevailing winds by woods, which makes the experience even more pleasant for a small part.
A 9-hole course at the Golf de la Baie de Morlaix allows you to play in a superb setting, to have fun, to train, while being accessible, fast and economical, whether you are a beginner or more experienced.

- What makes your 9 holes special?

Despite its "easy" appearance, it is a technical 9-hole course, particularly on the greens and green attacks, which allows beautiful games for the most experienced competitors.
Mastering wedging strokes and a good strategy on the stakes will make a real difference in the final score of the players.

A real chameleon this course, it allows you to have fun at golf with friends or family, regardless of the level of play – from the green card – and without ever losing sight of the sea!

- Which hole surprises the players the most and why?

At the start of hole 8, we have a panoramic view over a large part of the bay, which makes this hole as pleasant to play as to contemplate.
Despite its moderate distance, the hole requires good wind management and a precise approach, especially if the greens are well prepared on the day of your game.
This par 3 is one of the key holes to score a good score or on the contrary lose some moves, because an error in estimating the wind or the club can easily be paid.

- Present us your teaching department: professional, services, internship...

Pierre-Yves Nedellec emphasizes the accessibility of golf for everyone, from beginners to more advanced players, by adapting sessions to the level, needs and personal objectives of each.
It offers a wide range of golf courses suitable for everyone:
• Individual lessons (from 30 min to 1 h and more)
• Group lessons for small groups
• Intensive internships
• Accompanied course (9 holes) to learn in real-life situations
• Golf school for adults and children

Le Golf de la Baie de Morlaix

Nestled between the wooded hill and the beach of Clouet in the south of Carantec, bordered by the famous GR34, opposite the Cairn de Barnenez, the Golf of the Bay of Morlaix is nestled in a unique natural setting.
A true visual experience, the colors of the sea change perpetually depending on the tides and the weather. Between 2 holes, the golf games are enhanced by a panorama of which one never tires.
The Château du Taureau, sentinel of the architect Vauban, watches over the Bay of Morlaix. The silhouette of this stone building stands out above the waves: the 'Old Sea'.
