Playing golf is also about choosing a place where you can relax and unwind before and after your round. How are hotels adapting to golfers’ needs? We put this question to Harmony Fulconis, Operations Manager at Domaine et Golf de Vaugouard.
Harmony FULCONIS is Operations Manager at Domaine et Golf de Vaugouard, located in Fontenay-sur-Loing. The resort welcomes both leisure and business guests throughout the year, with a particular focus on golf holidays.
What proportion of your overall clientele do golfers make up?
Golfers account for a significant proportion of our leisure clientele, particularly in the spring and autumn. These seasons offer ideal playing conditions and are particularly popular. Golfers are a loyal, regular clientele, often visiting as couples, with friends or in small groups, for day trips or stays of one or more nights. Golf is a real draw for international visitors. We regularly welcome guests from Europe and sometimes from further afield, attracted by the quality of French courses, the climate and the local way of life.
What do you think are the main expectations of this clientele?
Above all, golfers are looking for comfort and peace and quiet after a day on the course, simple and efficient logistics, flexible timings, high-quality catering, personalised advice on the courses, as well as attentive and flexible service.
What facilities or services do you offer specifically for golfers?
We provide storage space for bags and equipment, a green fee information and booking service, a kit cleaning service if required, catering on request, and golf holiday packages including accommodation and course access.
We strive to make things easier for our guests by offering packed lunches and by being very flexible in organising their stay.
In your opinion, what small details make all the difference to a golfer’s experience?
It’s often the simple touches that count: a warm welcome, advice on the weather and the course, prompt service, the option to clean or store equipment, a cold drink on your return, and a place to relax after your round.
Have you noticed any changes in their expectations?
Yes, definitely. Customers are increasingly focused on the environmental credentials of establishments, the digitalisation of services (online booking, simplified check-in), and the personalisation of the experience.
