Biodiversity at the heart of Camiral: concrete action for local wildlife

In order to protect ecosystems, Camiral Golf & Wellness, a partner in the Golfy Network, works in collaboration with the Association des Écosystèmes Naturels (CEN). As a result, concrete action is being taken to preserve and enhance the local flora and fauna on its golf courses.

Thanks to the joint efforts of Camiral and the CEN, a census has identified more than 101 bird species within the complex, 75 of which are protected. Among the most remarkable are the long-eared owl, the kestrel and the common moorhen. The site has also become a refuge for more than 2,000 swallows, which benefit from this unspoilt environment.

Camiral Golf & Wellness also makes a point of preserving the local turtles, which have found refuge in specially landscaped areas around the ponds. These areas provide them with a safe environment in which to rest and reproduce. In collaboration with the CEN, action is being taken to encourage the growth of their population and provide them with optimum conditions for survival.

But the work doesn't stop there. The salamander and the common toad, two species of amphibian in decline, have found an ideal habitat at Camiral. Thanks to close collaboration with biologists, measures are being taken to ensure the right environment for these species to thrive in complete safety.

In early 2024, evidence revealed the presence of otters. An unexpected and valuable discovery. After meticulous monitoring using night vision cameras, the presence of two individuals was confirmed. Camiral, in partnership with the CEN, is now working to identify other potential otters and to monitor the evolution of this population in the hope of encouraging them to settle on the site in the long term.

Through these concrete actions, Camiral Golf & Wellness is reaffirming its role as guardian of local biodiversity and demonstrating that the development of an environment dedicated to well-being and golf can go hand in hand with the preservation of natural ecosystems.
